Summary

Semantic Stargate Wiki is a "living" dictionary and episode guide to the Stargate television series, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe, the movie which originated the franchise, the Direct-to-DVD movies, and all official merchandise from the franchise (games, books, DVD...). It is a "living" website, because it can be changed and amended by users. You can add pictures, information, and external links to websites in support of information contained within Semantic Stargate Wiki.

Most of all, Semantic Stargate Wiki is a semantic wiki, certainly the first one related to the Stargate universe. Semantic data can be used everywhere in the wiki to make comparison, data grouping and much, much more. To have an idea about the usefulness of semantic data, see the Semantic MediaWiki site, which developed the software used here.

Getting started

In order to be able to contribute on Semantic Stargate Wiki, you need a valid account that you can ask on the "Request Account" link in the upper right corner and enter a user name that will be used at all of your contributions, and an email address in order to have your temporary password you'll need to change at first logon.

Present day

We presently cover all aspects of the Stargate series and movies. You'll find — and can add — information on such items as terminology seen, events that occurred, and characters introduced & developed. We will also furnish a complete and thorough episode guide, a la Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5, to analyze and dissect the episodes from this series. Unlike the Lurker's Guide, contributions are immediate and can be edited without the tedious process of emailing corrections and awaiting the webmaster for an update. Semantic Stargate Wiki is hosted on a personal server.

How to Utilize

Utilization of this wiki is fairly straight forward. For starters, you need a means to identify yourself. Therefore, you'll have to ask for the creation of a user account through this link, which is fast, easy, and, of course, free.

Once you account created, you can log in (and change your password at first log in) and then, any hyperlink without an icon next to it leads to an entry on this website about that term. Above it, you will find a list of tabs. In this group of tabs, you'll find the "Edit" tab. Click it, and you'll be able to add, correct, or remove content. The Editing Help portion of the site will cover the essentials in editing entries, but it'll be like posting to a message board, and you'll see your results immediately.

You'll also be able to discuss the topic by clicking the "Discussion" tab. So, if you want to question on the merit of a piece of information in that entry, or spur discussion, you can do that there without including it in the "official" entry. (Thus presenting information and not back-and-forth bulletin board type commentary.)
