The Shavadai (meaning "People of the steppe") are a human ethnic tribe probably descendant of the Earth Mongol tribe of Shagatai, living on planet Simarka.

Overview

The Shavadai are a tribe of humans who have been taken by the Goa'uld (called "demons" by them) as slaves at least 900 years ago on Simarka. Probably descendants of the Earth Mongol tribe of the Shagatai, they kept their way of life typically of the steppe nomad, especially the way they considered women. In a large majority, men are polygamists and women are mostly like merchandise. They cannot speak until they're allowed to, cannot get out without wearing a veal on their face. If they don't observe the ancestral ways, they are sentenced to death at once.

They do have cows, horses, camels, wool and they make their own medicine with local plants (SG1: "Emancipation").

History

After been left on they own several centuries ago, the Shavadai continued to live according to the ancestral laws, with the fear of the other tribes like the Toughai. Eventually, Moughal, chieftain of the tribe, tried to change the "old ways", stating that trade will replace war. Unlike the other men of the tribe, Moughal tried to make an example with having only one wife, of whom he fell in love with. Among his tribe this attitude was considered as a weakness (SG1: "Emancipation").
